Author Bio

USA Today bestselling author Nana Malone's love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense novel she "borrowed" from her cousin.

It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick-butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination constantly channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as brazen and kick-butt as she thinks she is.

As Long As You Hate Me by Carrie Aaron - Book Review (Opinião)

Read in English      Ler em Português

As Long As You Hate Me

Original Title: As Long As You Hate Me
Author: Carrie Aarons
(Kindle Edition)
Pages: 250 pages
Synopsis:
«Kara
High school sweethearts. What a load of bull.
He might have been my first love, but it never meant I wanted to hear lyrics containing my name, love story, and *cringe* how I lost my virginity peddled out for the masses to digest.
Seven years later, and I’m still being haunted by his photo in every magazine, his music on every radio station. I thought breakups meant that you never had to see the person again. Especially when they ripped out your heart and made hamburger meat with it.
But when a chance encounter ends up going viral, I’m tied to him in a way I’ve always dreaded. And the last person on earth I’d want to spend an hour with, much less a lifetime, makes me an offer I can’t refuse. I might just be desperate enough to take it.

Dean
The girl in the song is real. And she’s made me a rich man.
I’ve been dedicating choruses to her for a decade, she’s the muse she never wanted to be. Off of our love, I’ve become famous … and a complete egomaniac.
When another one of my flings goes off the rails, and lands me in hot water with the media, my recording label is less than thrilled. And so comes the marching orders from my agent; devise a scheme to transform into a squeaky clean good guy.
Coming face to face with her is something I’ve only dreamed about. If not to win her back, then to at least apologize for the ways I’ve exploited her. Instead, I rope her into my madness, proposing a deal only a masochist would accept.»

How can you not be curious by a romance book that involves high school sweethearts and a rock star? I would actually say that these have the perfect elements to make a good book and that was the case.
In As Long As You Hate Me the author Cerrie Aarons we follow Kara and Dean that, throughout high school and the two years after, they lived an intense romance. However, confusions ended up breaking the relationship a part and, seven years after the last time they saw each other, Dean comes back with a favour to ask.
The story develops around this premise and we obviously have a lot of drama involving fame, money and scandal.
First of all, I have to mention the amazing characters the author created. Of the last books I have read, these are, with no doubt, the most realistic and the ones that interact better with things: they don’t constantly change opinion, they just get annoyed with each other when there are actual motives for it and their emotions to the different situations seem completely realistic.
When talking about the action itself, there’s nothing very unexpected throughout the whole book, however, there where some moment where the character’s reactions made me laugh out loud of how funny they were.
The book itself is not that long, according to Goodreads it says that it is around 250 pages, which left me a bit apprensive because it’s not always easy to develop a good story in such a small number of pages, but I ended up thinking that it was the ideal number: less would be rushing the story way too much and more would be stretching what was already good.
Overall, I can’t really point out a problem in this book. So, why not five stars? The motive is pretty simple: the book is really good and it’s a fast read but I wasn’t really surprised. When I got to page 100 I thought that the book was going to end up in a certainly what happened, which made me back up half a start when I was doing my final decision, but this doesn’t invalidate all the positive points of the book.
So, this is an incredible book and a well-built romance. So yeah, I do recommend it.
Lastly, I just want to say that I am in love with this cover.
Good readings.

Excerpt

Slipping off my shoes, I dim the lights on the wall panel. I take my clothes off and hang them on a hook near the door before returning to the tub.
The tub, warm and inviting as I step in, eases my aching feet from my high heels and the tension in my shoulders. I pour some of the bubble suds and giggle. That was so cute and showed me a whole new side to Ethan—the at-home Texan who relates to his roots—instead of the strong, quieter, broodier man I see sometimes.
While the suds foam and the tub fills, I look out the window. The sky is clear up here. The buildings are far enough apart to avoid spying on neighbors. It’s like floating in heaven.
I hear his knock on the door, so I call, “Come in,” while making sure the bubbles cover all the important parts.
Ethan walks in with two glasses of champagne in one hand and the bottle in the other.
“You came prepared,” I note, leaning back on one side of the tub.
“I thought I might join you.” He waggles his eyebrows.
I giggle and reach for a glass. “Come on in,” I reply and wonder if he will really take me up on my dare.
He sets the bottle and his glass down on the side of the tub. His tie was removed before he came in and I notice his shoes are long gone, along with his jacket. When he starts on the buttons of his shirt, I sit up, scooping suds over me. “Wait, for real?”
“Yep. I think that tub’s big enough for the two of us.”
“But you said you don’t take baths.”
“I also said I’ve never used this one. Seems like an opportune time.”
“But I’m naked,” I say, worried about everything—his body naked next to mine, not shaving my legs before I went out tonight. My mind flickers through my flaws. Ugh. No. Just no. Not like that. That stuff should be shared in the dark of a bedroom under the influence of alcohol and desperate sex. We’re too sober for this. I’m too sober for this. What does he possibly see in me when he has women like Nicolina waiting?
He’s more than I’ve imagined, and in some senses, it scares me. He’s the sort of man women like Nicolina land. For once though, it was as if she saw me as competition. The feeling is exhilarating.
“Like I said, seems like an opportune time.”
His shirt is dropped, his undershirt following quickly behind. Good God Almighty. What does a guy who looks like that see in me? “I see you like to work out.” I clear my throat and want to bonk my head on the side of the tub for saying it out loud.
Chuckling, he says, “I have a gym down the hall. It’s how I relieve stress.”
“I thought that’s what sex was for.” I gasp and cover my mouth, wishing I could keep my crazy thoughts in my head where they belong instead of on my tongue. His eyes are heavy, a smirky smirk restraining a laugh. “God, you cannot let me talk when I’m nervous.”
“If this is what happens when you’re nervous, I’ll make you nervous more often.” His pants come down and my curiosity is answered. Tonight he’s in boxers. When he catches my eyes on his package, I’m thankful I’m wearing waterproof mascara because I immediately go underwater. Screw my makeup. It’s really the only way to keep my mouth in check at this point. I count to five and then pop back up. With my hands covering my boobs, I ask, “You’re really coming in?”
    “Yes, scoot over.”
    Good God Almighty.

Everest by S. L. Scott - Book Review (Opinião)

Everest

Original Title: Everest
Author: S. L. Scott
(Kindle Edition)
Pages: 442 pages
Synopsis: «Six foot three. Dynamic green eyes. Utterly irresistible.

I might have fallen for his easy-going smile the first time we met, but I fell for him the second time.

Secrets broke us apart. Can a second chance bring us back together?»

By the blurb of the book (The Man. The Myth. The Mountain), I expected something like Fifty Shades of Grey and I was oddly surprised. The book ended up being something completely different from what I expected.
So, the book starts when Everest and Singer meet in a party where they both get close and, after sharing a connection, they never appear in each other’s life. But destiny has something in favour of these two and it puts them together in more than one situation again and the story develops from here.
Just like in every romance, we have a lot of discussions, chicaneries, and stubbornness. And it’s in this big indecision from the characters that ends up dragging the story and making it a bit tiring.
The main characters, just like in every romance, can annoy the reader so many time, but these ones are, overall, captivating, and realistic, in particular Singer, since she is a character with a humungous heart. Talking about the secondary characters, they fit very nicely in the story and are, clearly important. They don’t give that feeling that they are there to give a random advice and then disappear like in most romances.
Until the action reaches its climax, we are presented with multiple moments that I thought could be better developed or even not there at all. But when the romantic parts really start (and not only those), they are awfully well built and heart-warming. Taking in account that the book is a bit long and the story sometimes gets dragged a bit, I’m happy that the author opted to make it this way, so she could develop the characters and their story.
So, in total, I enjoyed the book thoroughly and I highly recommend it.
Good readings.

Cover Reveal - The Thing About Love by Kim Karr

Title: The Thing About Love
Author: Kim Karr
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Model: Forest Harrison
Release Date: January 3, 2018

The whole stethoscope-and-white coat thing isn’t my cup of tea.

I prefer a man with an artistic vein in his body. 9 - 5 hours. And I can definitely do without the half-lidded, sleepy bedroom eyes. (Okay, so those are kind of sexy.)

Tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t change the fact that he’s arrogant, cocky, and rude.
Not that I care, but he’s made it clear he wants nothing to do with a quirky girl like me, which is why he said no.

Turns out no isn’t an option.

I have a quickie wedding to plan, and Dr. Jake Kissinger doesn’t have a choice. He looks at our situation like he’s stuck with me, but in reality I’m stuck with him. Stuck with his pouty mouth. His long, lean body. And stuck with those loose, low riding scrub pants. (Okay, so the doctor thing is growing on me.)

When spending time together turns into more than it should, I know I’m in trouble.
He isn’t supposed to make my heart pound.
I’m not supposed to make him look twice.
And we aren’t supposed to spend the night together. (Okay, so he has more than one artistic vein in his body, and other places.)

Falling for him is definitely a mistake.

Here’s the thing…
Jake is unavailable, and I know it.
Just not in the way you might think.

I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too.
