The End Of The F***ing World

Deparei-me pela primeira vez com esta série no instagram e, como seria de esperar, fiquei intrigada pelo título. Assim sendo, quando me deparei com esta série no Netflix e vi a premissa, não pude deixar de ver.

Composta, até ao momento, por apenas uma temporada com 8 episódios de cerca de 20 minutos cada um, The End of The F***ing World segue a vida de dois adolescentes, James que acredita ser um psicopata e que tem como sonho matar alguém, e Alyssa, uma rapariga frustrada com a vida que vive e com a sua família. Quando James conhece Alyssa, vê-a como alvo perfeito para finalmente concretizar o seu sonho. Já Alyssa vê em James uma pessoa fora do comum e que a intriga.

Quando a vida familiar de Alyssa se torna insuportável, esta decide fugir de casa e convida James para a acompanhar. Juntos, vão acabar por se meter em diversos problemas.

A premissa da série faz parecer que estamos a falar de uma série de humor negro, o que não deixa de ser totalmente verdade, uma vez que temos diversos momentos engraçados onde este tipo de humor é o protagonista (como podemos ver pelo trailer da série). No entanto, também a nível emocional, a série é extremamente forte, e acaba mesmo por nos ensinar diversas lições de vida.
Duas questões que eu não posso deixar de referir é, sem dúvida, o excelente elenco e a incrível banda sonora. Até ao momento, não conhecia nenhum dos atores presentes nesta série, mas sem dúvida que fiquei completamente apaixonada pela representação de todos, sendo de destacar Jessica Barden (que faz o papel de Alyssa) e de Alex Lawther (no papel de James), além de que a química entre os actores foi excelente.
Quanto à banda sonora, foi muito bem escolhida. Todas as músicas encaixam perfeitamente na ação e completam-na de uma forma incrível.
Apesar de sabermos que ambas as personagens principais se estão a colocar em problemas desnecessários e que eles próprios não são as melhores pessoas, acabamos a torcer para que, no fim, tudo se resolva pela positiva para ambos. E foi também este sentimento que a série foi capaz de criar em mim que me fez amá-la tanto.

No final, ver esta série acaba por ser como ver um filme de cerca de 3 horas. Ou seja é uma série que vemos bastante rápido. Também por ser tão pequena, não há muito mais que possa dizer. Termino então por referir que, depois daquele final que eu não vou contar, eu preciso, urgentemente, de uma segunda temporada (cuja possibilidade ainda está a ser discutida). Mas, mesmo que tal não aconteça, é uma série que recomendo muito, especialmente por ser extremamente interessante, pelas sensações que nos provoca, pela banda sonora e pelo elenco incrível.

The End Of The F***ing World

I first encountered this series in an instagram post and, as expected, I was intrigued by the title. When I came across this series on Netflix and saw the premise, I could not help but see it.

With, so far, just one season with 8 episodes of about 20 minutes each, The End of The F***ing World follows the lives of two teenagers, James who believes he is a psychopath and dreams of killing someone, and Alyssa, a girl frustrated with the life she lives and with her family. When James meets Alyssa, he sees her as the perfect target to finally realize his dream, to kill someone. On the other hand, Alyssa sees in James a person out of the common that intrigue her. When Alyssa's family life becomes unbearable, she decides to run away from home and invites James to accompany her. Together, they end up getting into a lot of problems.

The premise of the series makes it seem like we are talking about a series of dark humour, which is not entirely false, since we have several funny moments where this type of humour is the protagonist (as we can see from the series trailer). However, on an emotional level, the series is extremely strong, and ends up teaching us several life lessons.
Two things that I can't fail to mention is undoubtedly the excellent cast and the incredible soundtrack. So far, I have never heard about any of the actors in this series, but I was completely in love with everyone's performance, especially Jessica Barden (who plays the role of Alyssa) and Alex Lawther (in the role of James).  Also, the chemistry between the actors was excellent.
As for the soundtrack, it was really well chosen, all the songs fit perfectly into the action and complete it in an incredible way.
Although we know that both main characters are putting themselves in unnecessary trouble and that they themselves are not the best people, we end up hoping that, in the end, everything will work out for both of them. And it was also this feeling that the series was able to create in me that made me love her so much.

In the end, seeing this series turns out to be like watching a 3 hour film. In other words, it's something that we see quite fast. Also, because the series is so small, there is not much else I can say. I will end this review by saying that, after that finale, I urgently need a second season (whose possibility is still being discussed). But even if this does not happen, it's a series that I highly recommend, especially because it's extremely interesting, for the sensations it provokes, for the soundtrack and for the incredible cast.
